Privacy & Data Use

What we collect, and what we will never do with it.

Short, in plain language, because a policy nobody reads protects nobody.

The self-assessment

Your responses are confidential. When you complete the readiness self-assessment we record your item responses, your domain scores, your role (for example, staff nurse or unit manager), the hospital and unit you enter, and a brief facility profile: country and region (state, province, or nation), hospital type, approximate annual births, neonatal unit level, and whether a bereavement lead is in post. Answers to the short country questions (United Kingdom, Canada, Ireland, and Australia) are recorded the same way. They are not scored. If you arrived through a shared link, such as one handed out at a conference, we record the name of that link so we know which events are useful. It does not identify you.

We do not record your name, your street address or city, or any contact information as part of that submission. Location is recorded only at country and region level. The hospital and unit you enter are recorded so that, if your hospital later asks Bereavement Ready for help, your results can be found without you retaking the assessment. Hospital names are never published or shared, and no result is ever reported by hospital name. If a colleague sent you a link with a team code, that code is recorded with your answers so your team's results can be compared. Individual answers are never shown to anyone at your hospital.

Confidential responses are used for benchmarking and field research. Findings are published only in aggregate, in a form that cannot identify a facility. Results for any country or region are published only once enough units have taken part that no single facility can be recognised from them.

Bereavement Ready is based in the United States and manages responses from there. If you complete the assessment from another country, including the United Kingdom, the European Union, or Canada, your responses are handled from the United States under the terms on this page. To ask a question about this, write to hello@bereavementstandard.org.

If you save your results

Saving your results at the end of the assessment is optional and separate. If you give your work email, and if you choose to add your name, hospital, and unit, we use that information to send you your report, to prepare your team comparison if you asked colleagues to take part, and, only if you ticked the box allowing it, to follow up with you about your results. We also note which next steps you opened on the results page, so we can tell which ones are useful.

What we will never do

We do not sell, rent, trade, license, or share your contact information with any vendor, manufacturer, sponsor, advertiser, data broker, or third party. Not for money, not for partnership, not ever. You will not receive marketing from any other organization because you used this tool.

Reply to any message from us and ask to be removed, and we will delete your contact information. Ask us what we hold about you and we will tell you.

Not patient data

The self-assessment collects no patient information of any kind and is not a clinical system. Do not enter patient details into any field. Bereavement Ready is not a covered entity and nothing on this site should be used to transmit protected health information.
