Bereavement Ready develops and stewards the Bereavement-Ready Care™ Standard. It operates as an independent entity, and its independence is guaranteed by governance covenants rather than by corporate form. The organization is currently structured as an independent limited liability company, and a nonprofit governance structure for the standards function is under active evaluation as the founding cohort forms. Under every structure, the commitments below hold.
Authority over the content and integrity of the standard rests with an Independent Standards Review Board. The Board reviews and revises the standard, holds it against current evidence, and ensures it serves families and institutions rather than any commercial interest.
The Board is composed to bring clinical, nursing, policy, and bereaved-parent perspectives to the standard. Members serve independently. Founding Board members are named publicly as the inaugural Board is seated.
The Bereavement-Ready Care™ Standard is vendor-neutral and technology-neutral by covenant. It does not require, promote, endorse, or benefit from any product, technology, or service. Where any founder, contributor, or Board member holds a relationship with a commercial entity in the perinatal space, that relationship is disclosed and firewalled from the development and stewardship of the standard.
All material relationships that could bear on the standard are disclosed. Anyone with a relevant interest recuses from decisions where that interest applies. This principle governs the founder, the Board, contributors, and reviewers alike.
The free readiness self-assessment is indicative only. Formal recognition as a Bereavement-Ready Care™ Hospital follows a Formal Readiness Assessment that verifies evidence across all eight domains. Recognition is renewed on a defined cycle, and no institution is listed publicly without its consent. These safeguards keep the designation meaningful for the hospitals that earn it.
